I volunteered at Walkabout Wildlife Park for two weeks in the summer 2011. I broke boundaries, made lifetime friendships, and I lived out some of my individual goals and dreams.
We worked hard,it was an incredible experience and all worth it!
On of the tasks we spend a lot of time on was maintaining the integrity of the fox-proof electric fence. This was essential to protect the many animals residing in the Park.
The specific tasks was to remove overgrown vegetation and replace the “apron” of mesh that prevents foxes and rabbits from digging under the fence.
• Planting more grass for native animals such as kangaroos and wallabies to feed on, and weed the existing kangaroo grazing area.
• Maintaining existing public walking tracks, and constructing new walking tracks. The maintenance of these tracks is essential to visitor enjoyment and safety.
• Assisting with the construction of a specialized multi species breeding facility to safely house threatened species such as long-nosed potoroos and bush-stone
